Letters to the Editor - Guidelines*

  1. Find out what the requirements and restrictions are. 

    • Pay careful attention to length (word count).

  2. Be sure to include your name and the town or city in which you reside.

  3. Be concise and direct throughout.

  4. Make your point early, within the first or second paragraph.

  5. State the issue(s), tell how it affects you and others, and why it matters.

    • e.g. How does the state of politics in Washington D.C. affect you (or affects everyone.)

    • To avoid confusion, limit the number of issues addressed.

  6. Praise and/or constructively criticize, as appropriate.

  7. Suggest solution(s) as appropriate.

    • Mention solutions that have or are working.

  8. Suggest a CTA - Call To Action, for readers, if appropriate.

  9. Reference NoLabels.org to direct readers to the website.
